Canada: Veterans want Minister of Veterans Affairs removed

Based on recent comments made by Minister of Veterans Affairs, combined with a decision by the federal government to launch an appeal against a B.C. Supreme Court decision in favour of Veterans, Canadian veterans want the Minister of Veterans Affairs removed.

The Canadian government passed the New Veterans Charter (NVC) in Parliament in 2006. One of the major contentions for veterans was the introduction of a one time lump sum payment in lieu of a lifetime pension. A group of veterans took the federal government to court in order to get the courts approval to sue the government. The B.C. Supreme Court ruled that the veterans could go ahead and sue the government. Read More
