The tournament is set to expand to 24 countries from 16 and to 52 matches from 32 to 52.
"One day in 1995, when we organized the second women's World Cup … I have taken a risk. And I have said the future of football is feminine. It was a risk. But one who never takes a risk will never have a chance. It will be a great, great World Cup. It is more than has ever been presented on international scenery here in Canada,"said FIFA President Sepp Blatter.
Not unlike their male counterparts, the Women's Soccer World Cup is the largest sporting event for women. World Cup games will be played in the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, B.C. Place in Vancouver, the Olympic Stadium in Montreal, Moncton Stadium, Winnipeg Stadium and Landsdowne Park in Ottawa.
"Canada's rich and diverse cultural composition will ensure that every national squad will feel welcome in Canada with packed stadiums representing our multicultural mosaic," said Canadian Soccer Association president Dominique Maestracci.
Canada's Federal Government has committed $15 Million toward the tournament, which will not be use for infrastructure
Canada's Women Soccer Team ranked seventh in the latest FIFA rankings.
The tournament will be a boost for Canadian soccer, which is played by record number of youths. On the professional side there are the Vancouver Whitecaps, FC Edmonton, Toronto FC and the Montreal Impact.
