Borussia Dortmund made the double perfect. After winning the Bundesliga last year convincingly, the young Dortumund team secured this year's Bundesliga and German championship on Matchday 33. With vigour they defeated Bayern Muenchen yesterday in the DFB Pokal, making the double perfect.
Dortmund demonstrated that they were no fluke last year and that the team will be a force to reckon with for some time to come. With a convincing win in the Olympiastadion in Berlin, they not only defeated Bayern, but scored no less than five goals against the record champion and Champions League finalist. It was a fitting finish for this year's season and soccer in Germany.
No less than 13 players of the German national side represented the two teams. Soccer scouts from all over Europe were at the game, including German national side coach Jogi Loew and Manchester United's Sir Alex Ferguson.
Jupp Heyncke, Bayern's trainer, had to admit that the better team deserved to win.
"We can't complain. Our whole defensive play was catastrophic. One has to make the sober analysis that we did not deserve to win."
Dortmund's Captain, Sebastian Kehl, who was lifting the DFB Pokal "The Pot", was full of joy, stating that Dortmund deserved to win.
We have proven that we rightly won the Championship and the Pokal. We were always present. It was undescribable to score five goals against Bayer, sensational," Kehl said.
The downfall of the Bayern empire started when Luiz Gustavo failed to get a pass back to Manuel Neuer, Kuba Blaszczykowski sprinted into the pass just under three minutes into the game and put Dortmund ahead. Arjen Robben got the equalizer via a penalty kick and it looked as if there would be a game. Matt Hummels put Dortmund into the lead in the 41st minute with a penalty kick. It was still game on.
During injury time Robert Lewandowski put the Borussen ahead 3-1, the first of his three goals. There were times when it was almost clear that Bayern had its eye already on next week's Champions League final against Chelsea. Grosskreutz pushed out of his own half and delivered a perfect pass to Lewandowski, who put Dortmund ahead 4-1 in the 58th minute. Frank Ribery who seemed to be one of the only Bayern players engaged, narrowed the score to 4-2 in the 75th minute.
Robert Lewandowski put the game totally out reach of Bayern when he scored his third goal of the night in the 81st minute.
Jupp Heyncke, naturally disappointed with his teams performance, especially defensively, said that the loss was unbelievable. He has vowed not to repeat those mistakes in next week's Champions League final.
For not particular explainable reason we were scored on early, Heyncke explained. Although it was a convincing defeat, he says that he also sees the positive. He said that the Bayern played well in the first half, was well organized and have demonstrated soccer culture. After getting scored on with a penalty kick and then taking another goal shortly before the break, it was hard to come back with a 3-1 deficit.
Heyncke said that while he doesn't want to lay blame on anyone in particular, that he thinks that the three players, which are suspended against Chelsea did not play to their optimal potential, especially in the defence. He thought it obvious that they were pre-occupied with their situation. He said that he understood their disappointment, however it shouldn't have affected how they normally play.
What appeared to be an enormous advantage for next week's Champions League final, is turning into a major demoralizer. The question now is whether or not Bayern can pick up the pieces and put on a first class performance in the Allianz Arena.
Consistency has one of the biggest detractors of the Bayern side this season, although normally they have been able to come out big for important matches. In yesterday's Cup final the team collapsed. On Saturday they have an opportunity to redeem themselves. One can rest assured that Chelsea studied the Bayern's play yesterday. Of course next weekend it will be a totally revamped defence.

Bundesliga Matchday 31 Fixtures and Preview
This has been a busy week in the Bundesliga, with Matchday 30 just completed yesterday, Matchday 31 kicks off tomorrow. Matchday 30 probably has decided the the Championship, with Dortmund defeating Munich in the headliner 1-0. Dortmund now holds a six point lead, a lead almost insurmountable with four games remaining. At the bottom of the league Kaiserslautern trails Berlin by seven points and will most certainly be playing in 2. Bundesliga next year.
Hamburger SV, FC Augsburg, 1.FC Koeln and Hertha BSC Berlin will be battling to avoid the remaining relegation spot and relegation play off spot with third place 2. Bundesliga. FC Bayern will likely end up in second place, with Schalke and Borussia MoenchenGladbach battling for the final Champions League spot. Bremen and Hoffenheim still have a chance of getting into seventh place and the final Euro League spot. In essence much has yet to be decided.
Stuttgart and Bremen meet head on in contention for a Euro League spot, while Nuernberg travels to the Betzenberg to solidify its place in the Bundesliga next year. Augsburg travels to Wolfsburg hoping to pick up at least one point. Wolfsburg has a small chance to make it to spot seven. Hamburg hosts seventh place Hannover and needs a win, while Hannover will defend its present Euro League qualifying spot.
Schalke 04 host neighbour Borussia Dortmund. Dortmund will be gleaming over its midweek victory over FC Bayern, while arch rival Schalke needs a win to maintain third place, a formidable task. Leverkusen hosts Berlin, a match important to both. A loss for Berlin could put the Bundesliga out of reach for next year for the Berliners. FC Bayern host Mainz 05 and will want to redeem itself prior to its match next week against Real Madrid. Bayern certainly needs a confidence builder. While Mainz will want a win for assurance, the team is not likely in danger of slipping into the relegation zone.
Gladbach hosts Koeln on Sunday, a match of importance for both teams. Koeln needs to win to avoid relegation, while Gladbach wants to move ahead of Schalke into a Champions League spot. Regardless how it ends, Gladbach has made a remarkable comeback after narrowly avoiding relegation last year. In the final Sunday game Freiburg hosts Hoffenheim. While Freiburg is relatively safe from relegation, Hoffenheim has a remote possibility of moving into spot seven and Euro League qualification.
The Bundesliga promises to be exciting to the last matchday and is proving itself as one of the best leagues in Europe. 200 countries tuned into yesterday's game between Dortmund and FC Bayern.

Dortmund Shuts Out Schalke - Tops Bundesliga
Dortmund entered the Revier derby after defeating Bayern Muenchen last weekend. During the week, in Champions League play, Dortmund left London defeated with Bender in the hospital and Mario Goetze's participation today questionable.
Gladbach, which won its match against Koeln yesterday moved into the league lead by one point. There was pressure on both Dortmund and Schalke to pick up three points.
Dortmund dominated the match from the start and Schalke barely gave Weidenfeller any work in the first half. There was never any real danger in the Dortmund 16 meter area. Dortmund was rewarded sixteen minutes into the match, when Schmelzer lowered a freekick into 5 meter area. Lewandowski, unhindered by the Schalke defence, headed the ball into the net. A well deserved 1-0 for Dortmund.
Dortmund continued its attack on Schalke but was unable to capitalize although shots on goal were 8-0. The halftime lead was well deserved. Schalke would have to turn up the tempo in the second half.
Schalke started the second half a little livelier, realizing that a draw would at least maintain contact with the league leaders. Dortmund kept pushing for the go ahead goal. The push finally paid off, after Goetze missed an excellent opportunity, tried to go it alone, and fired at the net from an impossible ankle. The resulting corner finds Schmelzer, who headed the ball to Hummels, who headed it square to Barrios, Unerstall deflects Barrios' attempt but Felipe Santana gets to the ball about 13 meters out and fires it into the net, for a 2-0 lead for Dortmund.
Dortmund, despite the absence of Sven Bender played a superb match and there was never any danger of the match being lost. Final score 2-0. With the win Dortmund takes the top spot in the Bundesliga, however, Bayern plays tomorrow.
Dortmund: Weidenfeller - Piszczek, Santana, Hummels, Schmelzer - Leitner, Kehl - Biascykowski Lewandowski, Goetze - Barrios
Schalke: Unnerstall - Uchida, Papadopoulos, Matip, Fuchs - Jones, Holtby - Baumjohann, Draxler - Raul, Huntelaar
