Barclay's Premier League Matchday 38 Fixtures and Preview

With 37 matchdays in the book, the Premier League Championship boils down to the very last matchday.  It is Manchester City's to lose.  With an eight goal lead over its rival Manchester United, all City needs to do is win.  United is not likely to make up the eight goal deficit.  All eyes will be focused on Manchester City to see if 18th place Queens Park Rangers can be the spoiler.   Meanwhile Manchester United plays at the Stadium of the Light in Sunderland.  Sir Alex Ferguson will push his squad to win, hoping for a draw or defeat of the City rival.

Chelsea, which has defeated Liverpool in the FA final, just to be rolled over in the Matchday 37 Premier League match 4-1 can only get a Champions League berth next year by defeating FC Bayern on May 19th in the Champions League final in Munich.  With nothing left to lose in the Premier league, expect some experiments in the Chelsea line up.

Arsenal is at West Brom this weekend hoping to maintain its third place, while Tottenham just trailing with one point hosts Fulham at White Hart Lane.  Newcastle is at Goodison Park.  Only one point separates Newcastle and Tottenham.

Soccer is a game of surprises.  Nothing can be taken for granted, even for Barclays final matchday.  City and United fans will sit on the edges of their seats and do some nail biting for 90 minutes of the final matchday.  This is how a season should end.

Barclays Premier League Matchday 34 Fixtures and Preview

With matchday 33 completed yesterday, and Manchester United's loss to Wigan, the race to the top has closed to within five points.  Arsenal has taken a five point lead over Tottenham to solidify third place.  With that background, all but four matches will take place this weekend, with Manchester City travelling to Carrow Road on Saturday and Manchester United will host Aston Villa in Old Trafford.  All things being equal both Manchester teams should be able to edge out a win, with City having to solve the more difficult task at Norwich.

Wolves for all intends and purposes will most certainly be relegated, while Sunderland will want to move up on the table.  Blackburn will need a win against Swansea in order to escape relegation, definitely a difficult problem.  The final match on Saturday will be West Brom against Queens Park Rangers at The Hawthornes.  Manchester United plays the only game on Sunday.

Arsenal meets Wigan at the Emirates on Monday.  Wigan will feel emboldened after its win against Manchester United.  Arsenal will want to further solidify its third place standing.

Four games will not be played until the 1st and 2nd of May when Liverpool meets Fulham and Stoke City hosts Everton at Britannia Stadium.  Chelsea hosts Newcastle at Stamford Bridge, while Bolton hosts Tottenham.

The delayed games will suit Chelsea who take on FC Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals next week.

The Premier League is far from being decided and this weekend's games will move the league closer to decision points.

Barclays Premier League Matchday 32 Round Up

With all the games in the books, Manchester United continues to top the English Premier League.   Their victory at Old Trafford over QPR, solidified their lead over Manchester City with eight points. Tottenham for the time being remains in third place, pending the outcome of the Manchester City/Arsenal game.  Tottenham’s draw against Sunderland will move Arsenal ahead of Tottenham, should they win.  Chelsea remains in fifth place after their win over Wigan at Stamford Bridge.  Arsenal moved back into third place after defeating Arsenal 1-0.

While the race to the top continues to be a two horse race, with the advantage to Manchester United, there are still several clubs battling to escape relegation.  The Wolves, who lost to Stoke City, will have a difficult time and are almost guaranteed relegation with six points behind Wigan.  Both Wigan, Q.P.R and Blackburn lost their respective matches this weekend and require a few wins to move out of the relegation zone.  Bolton is in the same boat, with just 29 points.
