DFB Pokal - Mainz loses to Regional Liga Contender Holstein Kiel, Schalke Eliminated

 The Group of 16 knock-out phase has been  decided.  Six Bundesliga clubs advance to the Quarter Final,  while Holstein Kiel is the only  Regionaliga Club  remains standing.  All of the Bundesliga clubs struggled with the 2nd Bundesliga clubs.  League leader FC Bayern Muenchen was only saved by an extra time goal against VFL Bochum.  Borussia Dortmund had to decide the game with penalty kicks.  Duesseldorf fought last year's champion to a scoreless draw for 120 minutes.

Greuther Fuerth beat Nuernberg at home 1-0.   The biggest surprise during this phase of the DFB Pokal was the win by Regional Liga club Holstein Kiel over Mainz 05.  Stuttgart eliminated Hamburg, while Gladbach send Schalke 04 packing.

Fortuna Duesseldorf vs Bor Dortmund 0-0  (4-5 Penalty Kicks)

Holstein Kiel vs Mainz 05    2-0
VFB Stuttgart vs Hamburger SV 2-1

Bor Moenchgladbach vs Schalke 04  3-1

The quarter finals will take place on the 7th of February.  The following have qualified for the quarter final:

FC Bayern Muenchen, Hoffenheim, Greuther Fuerth, Borussia Dortmund, Hertha BSC Berlin, Holstein Kiel, VFB Stuttgart and Borussia Moenchen Gladbach.

There is no word on the draw for the  matches yet.
