Bundesliga Matchday 34 Round Up - 1.FC Koeln Relegated

With matchday 34 complete, the Bundesliga season 2011/12 is in the books.  Borussia Dortmund won the Meisterschale, while 1.FC Koeln after its loss to FC Bayern is the second club relegated.  It was not a particularly good way for Lukas Podolski to bid farewell in his last Bundesliga game before moving to  Arsenal.  Perhaps the European Championships will leave a better taste in his mouth.

Augsburg will be around for a second Bundesliga season.  The Augsburg club had a spectacular second leg in the Bundesliga after the winter break, moving from last place and finishing in 14th when all was said and done.

Gladbach, Leverkusen, Stuttgart and Hannover have finished in a Euro League spot, while Schalke will be the fourth team playing in the Champions League this year.

Hertha BSC Berlin, with its win over Hoffenheim will be in the relegation playoffs against one of three clubs in the 2. Bundesliga.  Duesseldorf and Paderborn are tied at 61 points, while FC St. Pauli has 59 before the last matchday in the 2nd Bundesliga.  Greuther Fuerth and Eintracht Frankfurt will be joining the Bundesliga next season.

Dortmund continued its unbeaten streak and went out with a bang prior to accepting the Meisterschale, overwhelming SC Freiburg with 4 goals.

Klaas Jan Huntelaar is he first Dutch player to be the top scorer in the Bundesliga.  He registered his 28th and 29th season goals in the Shalke 3-2 win over Bremen.  He surpassed Bayern striker Mario Gomez by three goals.  Dortmund's Robert Lewandowski was third with 22 goals.
