Bundesliga Matchday 29 Round Up 7, 8 April

With matchday 29 completed for both Dortmund and Bayern, they remain separated by two points ahead of Wednesday’s meeting of the giants.  Bayern got an early goal by Mario Gomez, but Augsburg tied the game before half time.  Gomez’s second goal of the day, saved the three points for Bayern.  In the Dortmund/ Wolfsburg match, the league leaders easily dominated the second half, however the second half was a different story, with Wolfsburg pushing hard to get a draw, in the end Lewandowski sealed it with Dortmund’s third goal.

Kaiserslautern,  with a 2-1 home loss against Hoffenheim, has all but sealed it fate for relegation.  SC Freiburg with a 2-2 against 1.FC Nuernberg is three points above the relegation zone and although there out of danger currently, with five more games, the reality of relegation could still occur.  Nuernberg is in the same boat as Freiburg.

VFB Stuttgart put in another stellar performance, defeating Mainz 05, 4-1.  The win has the Schwaben in 5th place, although Leverkusen plays today’s evening game.   Koln managed a draw against Bremen, which keeps them in the relegation qualifying spot.  Hertha BSC Berlin and Moenchengladbach battle to a scoreless draw.  Schalke easily defeated Hannover and with 57 points have a five point lead over Gladbach.  Leverkusen didn't fair much better, however they picked up a point, which moved the team into 6th place.

Pending the matchup next Wednesday between Bayern and Dortmund, the Bundesliga continues to be a tight race for the top.  At least eight teams are still not out of the relegation danger, leaving a battle for survival during the last five matchdays.
