Bundesliga Matchday 13 Fixtures and Preview

Bundesliga giants FC Bayern Muenchen and Borussia Dortmund meet head on in the Allianz Arena in Munich on Saturday.   Lahm, Mueller, Kroos, Ribery along with the top scorer in the league, Mario Gomez will meet the likes of Goetze, Kagawa and Grosskreutz and Perisij.  Based on team performance to date, a slight advantage has to go to FC Bayern.

Both teams are blessed with talents behind their strikers.  Each one of them is capable of deciding games and have done so.  Of course Munich will be missing its midfield director Bastian Schweinsteiger.  Whether or not Jupp Heynckes will once again task David Alaba to take on that role remains to be seen.

Arjen Robben has taken part in team training again and may be available to start on Saturday.  If Arjen is in top form, he can tilt the scale a little more toward Bayern.  Regardless the spectators should be treated to a delight.

Kaiserslautern will host Ballack and company in the Fritz Walter Stadion.  Both teams need the three points.  For Leverkusen a win is critical to maintain contact with the top teams of the league, while a loss for Kaiserslautern could move the closer to the relegation zone.   SC Freiburg host Hertha Berlin.  It is a critical game for Freiburg to get some distance from the bottom of the league.  Berlin will want to continue its march to the top half of the Bundesliga.

Gladbach hosts Bremen, which should turn out to be another top match.  Both teams have 23 points and Bremen is ahead with the goal for/goal against difference.  Either team can move to 2nd place should Dortmund give up the three points in Munich.

Four points separate Koeln and Mainz.  Mainz has had a sluggish start to the season and will want to better its position on the table, prior to the winter break.  Podolski and company want three points  to establish the team firmly in the top 9.  Augsburg will be in the Daimler Benz Arena in Stuttgart where the Schwaben are seaking three points.  FC Augsburg will be looking for their second victory of the season.  While it won't change the overall standings, without the help of other teams, it will certainly give Augsburg a boost in confidence.

Hamburg and Hoffenheim close of the matchday on Sunday in Hamburg.  Hamburg has been struggling this year and Hoffenheim is sure to give them a run for their money.  Hamburg currently only has 10 points.  Hoffenheim will want to win the three away points and move up in the table.

Schalke 04, which will be hosting Nuernberg,  is only one point away from second place.  With the top teams in head on contests, Schalke could move ahead.  Nuernberg is looking to gain some distance from the relegation zone.

Matchday 13 is sure to have many surprises, since in the Bundesliga, on any given day, every team has the capability to beat any other team.  Bayern/Dortmund and Bremen/Gladbach  will be watched with anticipation.  Will Bayern be able to extend its lead to 8 points and who will be in second place when this matchday is in the books.
