Bundesliga Matchday 12 - Dortmund Rolls over Wolfsburg

Bundesliga Matchday 12 is in the books and the top contenders are still in a position to challenge FC Bayern Muenchen. In a second half nailbiter, Bayern prevailed and has a five point lead over the top contenders.  Stuttgart dropped its match against FSV Mainz 05 yesterday 3-1. Today Dortmund demonstrated why they were the League and German champion during the last season. Dortmund rolled over the "Werkself" from Wolfsburg with ease, winning by a margin of 5-1 and closing within two points of the leading Bayern.

SC Freiburg, which brought up the tail of the Bundesliga last week, edged out a 2-1 victory in Nuernberg. While not leaving the relegation zone for now, at least it was finally a win. Koeln gave up an early lead in Bremen and their move upward was stopped by a resilient Bremen team, which came back to win the match 3-2. The "Red Devils" from Kaiserslautern held Hoffenheim to a 1-1 tie. Hoffenheim has also not been up to last season's standard.

Berlin gave up and early lead against Gladbach, just to be defeated 2-1.

In the Saturday evening game, Leverkusen only managed to edge out a 2-2 draw against Hamburg.

In the early Sunday game Schalke 04 only managed a 2-2 draw in Hanover.  Puki put Schalke ahead in the 16th minute.  An unfortunate own goal tied the game three minutes later and Hanover moved ahead in the second half, with a goal by Abdelloue in the 59th minute.  Puki evened the the score in the 73rd minute.

The match between Augsburg and Bayern should have been a walkover for Bayern.  After goals by Gomez and Ribery in the first half, the record champion turned down the pace.  Augsburg took full advantage of the opportunity and Hosogai put the ball over the line in the 59th minute.  The goal lifted the spirit of Augsburg and they provided Bayern with a spirited battle.  Unfortunately for Augsburg their efforts were not rewarded.   Bayern remains on top of the league with a five point lead.
